Laminitis

This is a very topical issue again at the moment.

Many people fear this insidious hoof disease because it not only causes much suffering but also costs many animals their lives.

Laminitis has various causes and in most cases only one front hoof is affected.

Various mechanisms cause the small blood vessels in the hoof capsule to swell, creating pressure that makes horses reluctant or reluctant to walk. The release of various hormones constricts the larger blood vessels, resulting in a palpable pulsation.

One of the causes we know of in the history of laminitis is improper feeding. But medications, poisoning, infectious diseases, and metabolic disorders can also trigger laminitis.

Very often, however, it is due to an imbalance in the gut fermentation. This releases endotoxins that pass through the intestinal lining into the body. This can happen within 24 hours. That's why the sudden onset is so alarming for every horse owner.

What can be done?

Firstly, it's important to have it checked to determine whether it's actually laminitis or another hoof condition. A good hoof trimmer is essential; whether a farrier or a barefoot trimmer is up to you.

This inflammatory process often leads to the involvement of the dermis, which also becomes inflamed, as the disrupted blood flow causes small thrombi (blood clots) to form in the dermis.

What should you do if this occurs? It's always important to rebuild the gut flora and normalize the gut bacteria that release the endotoxins. Herbs can often help with this.

The hoof itself now needs nutrients, cooling, and trimming. For this, however, we need good growth, which is hardly possible when there is inflammation.

We have meanwhile discovered through some users that applying the CBD cream at the crown margin and the spraying of DMSO (Dilution between 20-30% solution) not only dilates the blood vessels again, but also greatly stimulates hoof growth. In cases of more serious inflammation, the oil cream is helpful. Its ingredients not only disinfect in a completely natural way, but it also has the long-term benefit of relieving pressure on the blood vessels.

Therefore, CBD cream, oil cream and DMSO in combination with herbs and a healthy gut flora are always the emergency therapy when laminitis occurs… before it becomes chronic.
